Dr. Ashwinikumar Anand Raut completed his integrated post graduate training (MD) from Banaras Hindu University in 1987. Since then, he has been actively involved in clinical practice and research in Ayurveda. He reinforces Ayurveda with latest research developments in the modern biomedicine. Dr. Raut has a substantial clinical expertise of over three and half decades in Kayachikitsa (internal medicine) & Rheumatology. He runs his consulting rooms at Prabhadevi in South Central Mumbai and at Virar. Tal. Vasai, Dist Palghar. He also holds specialty clinics at KHS-MRC, Vile-Parle. Whereas in the past at Nanavati Super specialty hospital, Vile-Parle, Mumbai and Sanjeevani Hospital, Virar.
Dr. Raut has successfully coordinated as a principal investigator, a project on ‘Preclinical Development of Herbal Anti-arthritic Drug’ sponsored by Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Govt. of India. He completed as principal investigator a project on ‘Degenerative Joint Diseases’ sponsored by Council for Scientific & Industrial research (CSIR), Govt. of India. He also was co-investigator of a project on ‘Advanced Centre of Reverse Pharmacology’ sponsored by Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR). In collaboration he completed a clinical study of Dalbergia in osteoporosis. He was also involved in AYUSH-CSIR COVID-19 project in a capacity of joint clinical coordinator and a consultant to AYUSH-CCRAS centre in Mumbai.
Currently he is engaged as a Co-PI for ICMR’s Product development centre. Picrorhiza kurroa in NAFLD and Tinospora cordifolia in Solid tumours are the active ongoing collaborative clinical projects.
Dr. Raut organizes and delivers academic talks on Ayurveda for researchers, academicians, practitioners, students and general community. He has been invited on several occasions to deliver scientific talks in USA. He has been on faculty of teaching/training programs for Ayurveda, Pharmaceutical sciences, Dietetics & Nutrition, reorientation for AYUSH teachers, and ICMR training programs for pharmacology/reverse pharmacology. Dr Raut has served as member of research advisory group for Niti Ayog, and is currently on research advisory board of AYUSH-CCRAS, Govt of India as well as of MUHS, Govt of Maharashtra.
Dr. Raut’s meticulousness makes him a guest editor, reviewer and member of editorial board of bio-medical and Ayurvedic journals. He continues as an associate editor of Journal of Ayurveda and Integrative Medicine (JAIM). Dr. Raut has over 80 scientific publications to his credit in national and international journals of repute. He has delivered over 150 scientific deliberations. Dr. Raut is the recipient of “CDRI (Central Drug Research Institute) award-2007” for ‘Excellence in Research’ for his work in Ayurveda & Rheumatology’. And received the “International Dhanwantari Award” for ‘excellence in Ayurvedic Practice’ from AAPNA (Association of Ayurvedic Professionals of North America) in 2010.
