5th International Developmental Pediatrics Association Congress

The 5th International Developmental Association Congress was held at Johannesburg South Africa between 28th November to 1st December, 2023. The theme of this year’s congress was “Our Children Our Future: From Vulnerability to Resilience.” Dr Mona Shah our Head of the Dept- ‘Physio and Rehab Unit‘- Medical Research Centre-Kasturba Health Society attended this congress.

Her report is given below

I was privileged to take the stage and share insights into the immediate effects of Brain Gym Exercises on the handwriting of 7 to 12-year-old children. Research revealed that a significant 27% of school children encounter handwriting difficulties, a figure that amplifies within the realm of special needs education.

During my presentation, we explored how Brain Gym exercises offer a promising solution for educators seeking to enhance academic performance. Integrating these exercises into the standard curriculum not only aids children with learning disabilities, dyslexia, and developmental disorders but also elevates handwriting skills for all students.

Additionally, the poster presentation delved into the correlation between tactile sensitivity and mode of delivery, recognizing its profound impact on a child’s behavioral, social, and emotional development. This underscores the critical need for early intervention and personalized therapeutic guidance.

The findings presented pave the way for advanced intervention strategies and emphasize the holistic approach needed to nurture our children’s growth.

Meeting individuals from different corners of the globe has been enriching. All individuals had come together to focus on one goal – “Every child should have the opportunity to thrive”
