A Gold Medalist from Nagpur, and a postgraduate (MD, Ob/Gyn) from Mumbai, Dr. Joshi received a post graduate research fellowship to work on ‘Vaginal Cytology in Threatened Abortion’. She was selected as ICMR research Fellow and worked in Cama & Albless Hospitals and in  Wadia Maternity Hospital. Later she pursued her clinical research interests at National Institute of the ICMR (NIRRCH) on pharmacokinetics and drug interactions with hormonal steroids and drugs commonly used in India in women using different contraceptive delivery systems and was awarded PhD in Biochemistry. She also conducted research projects on early diagnosis of cervical cancer and Reproductive Tract Infections in women in different categories of women in reproductive age.
She was a WHO Senior Research Fellow in Clinical Pharmacology, Liverpool, UK. She has designed, conducted and evaluated clinical Phase 1 to 4 clinical trials related to contraceptives, diagnosis and treatment of women’s infections and cervical cancer chemoprevention.
After her voluntary retirement from NIRRCH, ICMR as Deputy Director, she joined Bhavan’s SPARC and subsequently continued in KHS-MRC as Joint Research Director. She has investigated the scientific use of Ayurvedic/Traditional medicinal plant extracts in women’s health: eg. kinetics of genistein, Reproductive Tract Infections in women, cervical cancer prevention, menorrhagia and menopausal health through research grants as Principal Investigator or C0-Investigato. Her current areas of interest include anemia and cancer complementary therapy.
She has been invited for national and international conferences and has been felicitated by academic and national professional organizations for clinical research.
She is a keen gynecologic cytologist and was the first to draw attention to the relatively high prevalence of RTIs in women attending family clinics, especially Chlamydial infection, comparing 4 different diagnostic tests. She was a guide in Mumbai University for MSc in Life Sciences and PhD in Applied Biology. She has conducted rural clinics and surveys in Kaman, Thane (NIRRCH, ICMR), Valsad (Bhavan’s SPARC) and in Bhiwandi (FPAI) and has conducted cervical cancer screening programs for underprivileged women.
She has more than 140 national and international publications to her credit including 11 chapters, 1 monograph, and > 900 citations in publications & in some international text books. She also has editorial experience for peer reviewed journals.
